Ranebennur:
City
is a taluk head quarter located on NH4 at a distance of about
300 Km away from
Bangalore. This populous township
in
Haveri
District is on the highway
to
Bangalore.
The town is an important trading center and is famous for its
country wool rugs. This city is an important educational and
commercial centre. The City is well connected by a
network of national and state highways and also Poona -
Bangalore railway line.
It is also famous for the
Ranebennur
Blackbuck Sanctuary.
The area is covered mainly by scrub forest and eucalyptus
plantations, and is also inhabited by the endangered Great
Indian bustard and the wolf. Other mammals include
wild pig, fox, jackal, langur, porcupine, common mongoose,
hare, pangolin and hyenas. Avifauna population in the
sanctuary includes peafowl, sirkeer cuckoo, large grey
babbler, bay backed shrike and black drongo.
Ranebennur is
one of 57 Karnataka cities in the Nirmala Nagara - Municipal eGovernance project.
Each
of these 57 cities maintain a comprehensive website, computer based Public
Grievance & Redressal module, Birth and death Certification and
Financial Accounting. Other important modules to be
launched are
Property Tax, GIS Mapping,, Water Tax billing and
Building Liicenses. Nirmala
Nagara project is a partnership between the
Urban Development Dept,
eGovernments
Foundation &
Survey of India. These computer based systems coupled with Govt.
process re-engineering and GIS digital mapping will provide
transparency and accountability and smoother delivery of services to
