           ರಾಣೇಬೆನ್ನೂರು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಹಾವೇರಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಅತೀ ದೊಡ್ಡ ನಗರವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಉತ್ತರ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಬಾಗಿಲು ಅಂತಾ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ರಾಣೇಬೆನ್ನೂರು ಅಂದರೆ ರಾಣಿಯ ವಿಶಾಂತಿ ಸ್ಥಳವೆಂದು ಅರ್ಥವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಇದು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ರಾಜಧಾನಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿಗೆ 300 ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ಇದ್ದು ವಾಯವ್ಯ ದಿಕ್ಕಿಗೆ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ನಗರ ಹುಬ್ಬಳ್ಳಿಯಿಂದ 105 ಕಿ.ಮೀ,ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗದಿಂದ 88 ಕಿ.ಮೀ., ದಾವಣಗೇರಿ ನಗರದಿಂದ 37 ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ಅಂತರದಲ್ಲಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ರಾಣೇಬೆನ್ನೂರು ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕು ಹಾವೇರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಜನಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರೀಮಂತ ಕಿರಾಣಿ ಸಗಟು ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಹತ್ತಿಬೀಜಗಳು, ಎಣ್ಣೇಕಾಳು ಬೀಜಗಳು, ಕೆಂಪು ಮೆಣಸಿನಕಾಯಿ ವಿಳ್ಳೇದೆಎಲೆ, ಗೋವಿನಚೋಳ,ಚೋಳ, ಇವುಗಳು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆಗೆ ಕೇಂದ್ರವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ.

          ರಾಣೇಬೆನ್ನೂರು   ನಗರವು ಸಮುದ್ರಮಟ್ಟಕ್ಕಿಂತ 605 (1984) ಫೂಟ್ ಎತ್ತರದಲ್ಲಿರುತ್ತದೆ.  ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ನದಿ ಆದ ತುಂಗ ಭದ್ರನದಿ ರಾಣೇಬೆನ್ನೂರು ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹರಿಯುತ್ತಿದೆ  ಹಾಗೂ ಹಿರೇಕೆರೂರು ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನ ಮದಗಿ ಮಾಸೂರು ಕೆರೆ ಸಹ ಕುಮಧ್ವತಿಗೆ ಸೇರು ಅಂತಿಮವಾಗಿ ರಾಣೇಬೆನ್ನೂರು ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನಲ್ಲಿಯ ತುಂಗಭದ್ರ ನದಿಗೆ ಸೇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ  ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಜನಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಕೃಷಿ ಅವಲಂಬಿತವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಹತ್ತಿ, ಜೋಳ,. ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾದ ಬೆಳೆಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅವುಗಳಿಗೆ ಪೂರಕವಾದ ಹವಮಾನ ತೆಂಗು, ವಿಳ್ಳೇದೆಲೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಟಮೆಟೋ ಇವುಗಳು ಸಹ ಇಲ್ಲಿಯ ಇತರೆ ಬೆಳೆಗಳು ಆಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕೃಷಿ ಮುಂಗಾರು ಮಳೆಗೆ ಅವಲಂಬಿತವಾಗಿದ್ದು ಕೆಲವೊಂದು ವೇಳೆ ವ್ಯತಿರಿಕ್ತ ಪರಿಣಾಮವಾಗಿ ಬಿರುತ್ತದೆ.  ರಾಣೇಬೆನ್ನೂರು ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಜೋತ್ಪಾದನೆಗೆ ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾಗಿದ್ದು ಅನೇಕ   ಬಿಜೋತ್ಪಾದನೆ ಕಂಪನಿಗಳು ರಾಣೇಬೆನ್ನೂರುನಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ  ಹಾಗೂ ರಾಣೇಬೆನ್ನೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಟ್ಟೆ ಮಾರಾಟಕ್ಕೂ ಸಹ ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ರಾಣೇಬೆನ್ನೂರು ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕೃಷ್ಣಮೃಗ ಅಭಯಾರಣ್ಯವಿದ್ದು ರಾಣೇಬೆನ್ನೂರು ನಗರದಿಂದ ಸುಮಾರು 6-8 ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ದೂರವಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಬಾರತದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಪ್ರಸ್ತಿದ್ಧವಾಗಿದೆ.          

           ನಗರಸಭೆಯ ಜನನ ಮರಣ, ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಕುಂದು ಕೊರತೆ ನಿವಾರಣೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಆಸ್ತಿ ತೆರಿಗೆ ದಾಖಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಗಣಕೀಕೃತಗೂಳಿಸಿದ್ದು, ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರು  ಅಂತರಜಾಲದ ಮೂಲಕ ನಗರಸಭೆಯ ವೆಬ್ ಸೈಟ್ ನಿಂದ  ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಪಡೆಯಬಹುದಾಗಿದೆ.

         Ranebennur is the biggest city in the Haveri district in Karnataka. It is popularly known as the "Gate Way to North Karnataka", the Name of the city is derived from the term Rani-bennuru, literally meaning Queen's resting place. It is situated about 300 km north west of Bangalore. Its well connected to other major cities like Hubli which is 105 kms, Shivamogga - 88 kms, Davangere - 37 kms.

         Ranebennur Taluk is the most populous Taluk of Haveri District and also famous for its rich commodity market. Commodities like Cotton Yarn, Cotton Seed, Oil Seeds, Red Chilli, Betel nut, Maize and Betel leaf, Jawar are traded on the burgeoning local market. Ranebennur is located at 14o 37’N 75o 37’E 14.62o N 75.62o E. It has an average elevation of 605 metres (1984 ft)  One of the Karnataka's most important river - Tungabhadra flows along the border of Ranebennur taluk in the south another river - Kumadvathi which originates from Madagh Masur Lake flows all the way from Hirekerur taluk and passess inside Ranebennur Taluk and finally joins river - Tungabhadra in Ranebennur Taluk. Bulk of population is engaged in agriculture and related activities. Cotton and Jowar (sorghum) are very well suited for the semi-arid climate. Coconut, brinjal, maize, betel leaves and tomatoes are the other crops grown here. Much of the agricultural output is dependent on the southwest monsoon and hence gets challenging at times. Ranebennur is  famous in seed multiplication, several seed company are located and operating from here. It is also famous for its wholesale cloth market. Ranebennur Black Buck Deer Sanctuary also called in Kannada as "Krishna Mrugha Abhyaranya", is located just 6-8 km away from Ranebennur city. This Sanctuary is one of the only few Black Buck Deer Sanctuaries in India.
